Tomorrow, Saturday 20th March is World Macaron day, Yum!!!!

Friday, March 19th, 2010

Saturday (20th March) is World Macaron Day! In celebration of the wonderful French Macaron.
At the Versailles Court in Paris, members of the Dalloyau family, whose descendants later founded the gastronomy house of the same name, served macarons to royalty.
The delicious macaron filled with cream that is so popular today was invented by the French pâtisserie Ladurée.

Moleskine Cahiers love them!

Friday, March 19th, 2010

I really do love paper, journals, cards, note books, music sheets, new paper, old paper, books, magazines…

My collection of ephemera is huge, boxes and shelves of it, I would love to have some way of dislaying it all to inspire but my studio is too small.

Notebooks the same style as the modern Moleskine notebooks were a popular  in 19th and 20th century Europe. They were handmade by  French bookbinders who supplied the stationery shops of Paris.

“Cahier” is French for notebook, from the Old French quaier.

Customising these wonderful notebooks has become very popular.

COPY CAT CoPy CaT copy cat

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

Some may consider it flattering to be copied to be imitated.

It is however not  amusing or flattering when one works so hard to be unique and stand out from the crowd to find a herd of sheep following along behind.

The original work is then devalued and the designer has to work harder still to stay ahead of the pack.

Haute couture houses regularly contend with “knock-offs”. Their designs “inspiring” the copycats who then sell their work for much cheaper prices.

It is an easy road to copy, the hard work has been done

but consider what satisfaction or pride can be had from so little effort….

Do not store up treasures for yourself here on earth where thieves break in and steal…

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

I love this quote from the scriptures but it is nevertheless very upsetting when the internet thieves have been at it again stealing my images and reselling them, watermark still visible!

Yes, they even like to advertise the fact the work is stolen!!!!

It is hard enough to swallow the fact that my designs are frequently copied but taking the images from my website is just too much.

I put hours of work into designing and illustrating these mannequins to create original pieces unique to my shops

“Bricks and Mortar” shops display their goods for sale in shop front window displays, they do not expect the windows to be smashed and the products stolen.

No more do I expect my work to be stolen from my on line shop front display.

So if you see this image for sale anywhere but in my etsy shops please let me know.

Thank you to those who do respect the talents, property and  rights of others:)  Wendy

Lace Chemise and Petticoat Tales

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

“A chemise, shift, or smock was usually sewn at home, by the women of a household. It was assembled from rectangles and triangles cut from one piece of cloth so as to leave no waste. The poor would wear skimpy chemises pieced from a narrow piece of rough cloth; the rich might have voluminous chemises pieced from thin, smooth fine linen.”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemise

Today the term chemise often refers to women’s fashions that vaguely resemble a shift, or under garment, but are usually more delicate and provocative.
